ALERT : ALL GAS FITTERS
Effective as of 1st Febuary 2020 : Important changes to gas work licence & authorisation
Gas work licence (GWL) and authorisation (GWA) requirements exist to ensure gas work is only undertaken by suitably qualified and experienced people.
The requirements have been updated to place greater focus on practical experience, and to streamline the application process. These requirements must be satisfied for all applications from 1 February 2020.
Individual GWL or GWA applicants
*new GWL and GWA applicants must complete the new practical experience form, which includes minimum hours and types of experience. Some applicants may need their work to be witnessed
*practical experience forms do not need to be provided for GWL renewals or GWA renewals
*new GWL and GWA applicants must provide a digital photograph and a certified copy of their driver’s licence
- renewing GWA applicants must provide a photo
- renewing GWL applicants do not need to provide a new photo if one is already on file
* approved individual GWA applicants will receive a new authorisation card to provide consistency across industry.
Interim GWL holders
* with a Certificate III in Gas Fitting or a Certificate III in Plumbing can apply to progress to a full licence without a waiting period, provided they meet the requirements
* must complete the new practical experience form to upgrade to a full gas work licence.
Companies applying for a new GWA
* must now submit the practical experience form for each gas fitter listed in the application.
