Tuesday, 14 July 2009
The QGA has certifers who are trained and license to Certify a Type A gas appliance:
What is a Type A individual gas appliance:
Section 724 of the Petroleum and Gas ( Production and Safety) Act 2004 defines a Type A gas appliance as:
a gas device ( typeA) is a device,or system of devices, used, or designed or intentended for use for a purpose mentioned in subsection (2) the design of which has been certifed by the following as complying with safety requirements applying to that type of device-
a/ the chief inspector
b/ a person or body approved by the chief inspector
Examples of a gas device ( typeA)-
a gas cooker or hot water service
(2) for subsection (1) the purposes are-
(a) for the productionn heat, light or power or
(b) for refrigeration for which gas is the fuel; or
(c) as a prpellant
While this definition would appear to be virtually unlimited in scope the intent is that is should apply
tp relately small pre-consrtucted appliances which are sold in " a ready to use" state
This would include all domestic and most commercial appliances:
It would alos include small specialist appliances for which the codes do not exist!
Where there is doubt, the Chief Inspector, Petroleum and GAs should be consulted.
